The Other Fields

Every year in summer, when the major football teams fly their players to training camps in sunny locations, some two dozen men meet on an simple football ground in Duisburg. They are professional footballers - and they are unemployed. The spotlight shines on stars and arenas, but here are substantial things at stake. The workers union holds the camp for those in need and reminds those young men that their biography will be a split one. The career lasts only a few years - and then life starts. Talent, will, luck - it seems to be not enough for the very top, though they still hope for the breakthrough. And even if their football dream becomes reality, it turns out to be an employment relationship and often only part time labor. THE OTHER FIELDS accompanies several young men at the crucial turning point in their lives. They try to maintain their dreams in a system that deploys failure as the normal case.

Now That's what you call Documentary
It's by far my favourite film, a rousing, titanic epic that's so ambitious it seems to transcend the boundaries of cinema and go to places I've never seen the medium venture before.
Such a great documentary movie!!
This movie is everything I had hoped it to be and far, far more. Literally every choice they made while making it was a right one.
